Technology what a wonderful thing that is if it works properly. Today I went to show my students some safety videos off of YOU Tube. Well guess what I had no sound in my room luckily for me their was an empty room I could use to show the videos to the students. But if that room would not have been available I really do not know what I would have done because I made no other plans in case this happen. Some time I think all this technology makes my job harder rather than easier, because you almost have to plan for things like this so it makes for two times the work. So is technology a good thing or bad thing? I personal think that it is a good thing. What do you think?

Good thing. While I run into problems on a weekly basis it is still worth it. I have found it is crucial to have a backup, be flexible, and be open to new ideas.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Technology and I have a very ambivalent relationship... I love it, I hate it... I'm always having to use plan B when it comes to planning around technology. As much as I enjoy how it can enhance student's education as well as make my job easier, at times it can be a huge headache. I am continuously running into problems with our laptop cart, printers, LCD projector, etc. So like Rehmann said..."be flexible" when it comes to working with it!
ReplyDeleteIt's like answering the question, what is better, day or night? It seems to be a moving target doesn't it. When it runs it makes your day work when it doesn't well it makes you want to throw your pc out the window.....after all, perhaps, that's why they call it windows. ;)
ReplyDeleteFor me I help with the school district I.T. and today it hasn't been a red banner technology day.
Profile errors has the whole teaching staff hopping mad with loss of saved bookmarks re-setting email accounts etc.
I for one can't wait to see what happens when all 16 or 17 of us try to run PowerPoints the last night of class.

I just hope I get my PowerPoint completed! I am doing mine on my Mac; I think I will bring a projector with me just in case I can't get to it through CMU's computers. I have some ideas to put it together, but I have to complete my tech lesson first.
ReplyDeleteHey Pete,
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience except it was during an observation! That was fun.
I think technology is good because it engages students better than books and papers. At the same time is almost twice the work for the teacher.
Maybe we should get paid double because we teach in tech based classrooms :)
